Evaluating the timing of insecticide application to manage barley yellow dwarf virus and yield in winter barley

نویسندگان

چکیده

Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) is an important viral disease of grain crops worldwide and a major cause yield loss. The risk periods for BYDV infection coincide with milder temperature that prolongs aphid flight facilitates transmission through primary secondary movement in the crop. Secondary associated greater spread winter cereals. A critical component management therefore delaying sowing cereals correctly timing insecticide application to maximise crop protection. Previous research Ireland considered early (September) late (October onwards) sown Early did not consider action thresholds around temperature, spread. This set out understand optimal October barley reduce impact. 3°C was used as threshold development leads spread, treatments were applied at predictable intervals relation temperature. Results show symptoms are affected by spray time, location year, although only significant regard reduction symptoms. For both yield, there difference between untreated (control) plots “early” “late” applications insecticide, again more notable than yield. work indicates value optimising single control supports decision-making cereal crops.

Effect of Barley yellow dwarf virus Infection on Yield and Malting Quality of Barley

Barley yellow dwarf (BYD), the most common and widespread virus disease of cereal crops worldwide (14), may be caused by any one of several Barley yellow dwarf viruses (BYDVs) of the family Luteoviridae. Transmitted by at least 25 aphid species (24), these viruses historically have been classified into two subgroups and five strains based on aphid vector specificity and efficiency (31). However...

Barley yellow dwarf virus: Luteoviridae or Tombusviridae?

UNLABELLED Summary Barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV), the most economically important virus of small grains, features highly specialised relationships with its aphid vectors, a plethora of novel translation mechanisms mediated by long-distance RNA interactions, and an ambiguous taxonomic status. The structural and movement proteins of BYDV that confer aphid transmission and phloem-limitation pro...

Barley yellow dwarf viruses.

Barley yellow dwarf viruses represent one of the most economically important and ubiquitous groups of plant viruses. This review focuses primarily on four research areas in which progress has been most rapid. These include (a) evidence supporting reclassification of BYDVs into two genera; (b) elucidation of gene function and novel mechanisms controlling gene expression; (c) initial forays into ...

Tolerance to Barley Yellow Dwarf Virus in Oats

JEDLINSKI, H., W. F. ROCHOW, and C. M. BROWN. 1977. Tolerance to barley yellow dwarf virus in oats. Phytopathology 67: 1408-1411. Disease severity was highly correlated with reduction in plants of each of the three tolerant lines than from plants of yield of three pairs of sister oat lines representing F7 each of the three lines that lacked tolerance. These data show generation progenies that t...

Sequence and organization of barley yellow dwarf virus genomic RNA

The nucleotide sequence of the genomic RNA of barley yellow dwarf virus, PAV serotype was determined, except for the 5'-terminal base, and its genome organization deduced. The 5,677 nucleotide genome contains five large open reading frames (ORFs). The genes for the coat protein (1) and the putative viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase were identified. The latter shows a striking degree of similar...
